Health Insurance

According to Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, international students who are not covered by the General Health Insurance scheme under Law No. 5510 on Social Insurance and General Health Insurance are required to obtain private health insurance covering inpatient and outpatient treatment and medical expenses. This means that, in order to apply for a residence permit, international students must either purchase health insurance in Türkiye or provide an exemption certificate under a social security agreement.

You can purchase such an insurance policy through various insurance companies in Türkiye. If you prefer to obtain your insurance through the company partnered with the University, assistance will be provided during Orientation Week to complete the process.

Please note that in order to purchase health insurance in Türkiye, you must first obtain a tax number. A tax number can be obtained from any local tax office. The nearest tax office to the University is the Güneşli Tax Office (Şirinevler Mahallesi, Barbaros Caddesi, Bahçelievler Maliye Kompleksi No:3, Bahçelievler).

If you bring your own health insurance from your home country or purchase a policy abroad, you must provide proof in Turkish that the coverage is sufficient. This document is required for your residence permit application.
